Never has there been a more need for the Exchange Hotel’s Keg for a Cause than this Friday night. Local identity, Doug Richie sadly passed away leaving behind his wife Melissa and 4 young children, Olivia, Jameson, Ebony and Edan. His mates, past employer and the Exchange Hotel have banded together to put a night together to raise much needed funds for the family.
Nick Murray, owner of the Exchange Hotel has been running Keg for a Cause for several months now. From 5pm on a Friday night, patrons pay what the want for their pots of Carlton Draught, with all proceeds going directly to a cause. “Some people slip $5 in for their pot and others throw in a $20.” says Mr Murray. “We hope that the community will band together this Friday night for such an important cause. That’s the beaut thing about the Wimmera, we are always there when needed.”
Close friend to Doug, Ryan Scott is hoping to be able to make a difference in the financial burdens that family may encounter. “Doug was a great mate, who would have dropped anything to help anyone. We think this is something we can do to help his family.” said Mr. Scott. “Being heavily into his music, we have had a few fellow musicians want to play as well at The Exchange in tribute to Doug.”
Both Doug and his wife Melissa both were employed at Woody’s Meats and business owner Al Vanstan has donated a meat tray to be raffled on the night. “I used to play in a band with Doug, that’s how we met. He was the best mate.” Said a saddened Mr. Vanstan.
The Keg will be tapped at 5pm on Friday night at the Exchange Hotel, Firebrace Street Horsham.
